planning your travel to save money
flights
The nearest airport to La Murta is Alicante, which is 50 minutes away by car. Murcia and Valencia are both within reach, being about 1 hr 45 minutes away. There are direct flights to Alicante from 19 different airports on the UK mainland.
There are some great bargains to be had on the budget airlines. If you travel with just carry-on baggage and opt for online check-in you should be able to book a flight for less than £80 return on most routes. See:

airport parking
Airport parking is far cheaper if pre-booked. Search the internet for "airport parking" and you shouldn't pay more than £40 for a week at a UK airport.
car hire
It is cheapest to pre-book your car hire with a local english-speaking car hire company. We find the best options are www.rentspain.com and www.doyouspain.com. You usually have to purchase a tank of petrol with the car.
Because La Murta is situated down a steep and narrow access road, your car should be:
- petrol engine and manual gearbox
- "family/medium" size or smaller
- hired with "additional insurance" against bumps and scratches.
airport pickup

- at Benidorm bus station (bus from airport goes about every hour at €8 each, pickup around €30 each way)
